Great achievements the last few days for our first boat novices.
Everything started with their first race (ever) last Sunday at the Isis Winter League A. The M1 guys showed a confident and stunningly mature rowing that allowed them to make the best time of their category.
Day 4
M1 bumped Exeter, everyone bumps out in div3 and M1 row over as sandwich boat. Abortive celebrations at possible massive overbump on Oriel2.
M2 did not row.
W1 rowed over in Div4 and again as a sandwich boat in Div3 (klaxoned).
Day3
M1 bumped Univ on greenbanks.
M2 bumped by Merton M3 just before gut.
W1 were bumped, now 1st in 4th.
Day 2
M1 bumped Wadham in gut after 40 strokes.
M2 bumped by Wolfson M3 just before gut.
Blades and promotion to IIIrd division for the Men's thanks to 6 bumps in 4 days of racing.
M1 win Blades!
M1 bumped Trinity M2 in < 40 strokes. [video]
M1 promoted and bumped New College M2 in < 25 strokes.
M1 bumped Linacre M1 just after the gut. [video]

Conventionally, Stroke's oar is on stroke side and the sides alternate as you go down the boat. A rower is considered to be on the side where his/her oar is attached. This puts Stroke, 6, 4 and 2 on stroke side and 7, 5, 3 and Bow on bow side (see diagram above).
The arrangement of the oars is know as the rigging. Sometimes the boat will be rigged differently, however stroke and 7 will always be on opposite sides, as will 6 and 5, 4 and 3, and 2 and Bow.
St Antony's left the river cold yet fuming today.
Cold because someone in the administration told the first aid team to arrive for 12AM when the regatta was scheduled to start at 10.30. The Stallions spent an hour on the river before being told to land and wait for racing to begin at 12. When racing did start it was on the short course, which did not favour either of our crews. The Stallions, despite frostbite, fought well against their nemesis, St Anne's A. As was often the case the opposition had a faster start, but the Stallions managed to hold on, if not close the gap. Surely it is no coincidence that they won all their races against A crews on the long course, while they lost to a B boat on the short one?
The first race of this new academic year for the SABC was the usual time trial of the Isis Winter League A.
With 4 four boats on the river whose 2 with only novices, St Antony's Boat Club demonstrated consistent and promising performances.
Provisional Results are attached to the post.
